#MarvelMonday Cassandra Lathrop

Back when I was still in my rancid metamorphasis, I found Spy Comics (currently Fantasium Comics and Games) I remember what I purchased that day. Wolverine Vol 3 Issue 2, Exiles Vol 1 Issue 29, and New X-Men Volume 1 Issue 143. And when I opened that Wolverine I not only saw a first appearance, I also saw Marvel’s (then) posterboy infiltrating a gun show to find illegal arms sold to the killers of his new neighbor the night before. As he put it, “Get shot enough, you learn to tell the difference.” (Stop whining to me about comics getting political, I’m not new to this).

And while he searched the gun shows, he came across Cassandra. She was posing as the lover of the shady dealer who armed a dirty cop in league with the villains. We only get a look at her in her cover in that issue, save for that last panel, when she says into a radio, “It’s Lathrop. We’ve got a problem.”

In short, she interrogated her mark, followed Logan, got captured, freed herself and one other prisoner, made it out after Logan …diminished the captors’ ranks. Developing an obsession with him while he drank away his shame, she would follow him to the Mexican border as he battled Coyotes (more current events) before lending him a room (and her bed.)

She left the series right after that, but came back years and years later as part of Seraph’s Angels. A team made of Wolverine’s ex-girlfriends. And that was about 10 years ago, but it was not long after I’d dropped Marvel. So when I saw her appearances resuming after I’d last seen her, while roaming around the Marvel Wiki one night. It struck me that things had really kept on going after I’d left. (There have obviously been several reboots to the company since then, but it’s still people who were in High School when I was running the writer’s room now.) Who’ve you seen make a comeback after you left a property? Tell me in the comments.
