https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GqAByOmAXo I didn’t have ECCC AND Sakuracon in the budget this year. But I was given a free ride into town, and did a photo safari while covering a meal out. SO I made this for you all. I hope you like it šŸ™‚

Script for recapping Seattle Trip during ECCC 2024

I need to record this, but I’ve FINALLY buffed and polished this enough. Was supposed to post video today, but still need to record the voicework a few times, see what fits the photos best. They’re all in order. And I’ve cut the introspection to keep things more tight and relevant for viewers.

Ahoy hoy fellow foodies.  I’d like to do things in a little opposite order to my name today.  I want to talk about all the foodie stuff, then I want to discuss the fandom stuff.  Let’s begin with some Starbucks fare.  Turns out they weren’t advertising their custom drinks like they used to, and he was just this little sign on the door, and the storeā€™s pistachio stuff was advertised where the Comic Con drinks used to be advertised.  I mistakenly believed that there was no special Starbucks content, but the chain released a new sandwich.  And I got to capture my thoughts on that for you.  I hope that counts for something.

The Maple Butter Chicken and Egg sandwich.  I was recently treated to one of these on a trip to Seattle during Emerald City Comicon.  Not nearly as many cosplayers to capture as I was expecting, seemed sparsely attended for a Saturday.  Given how cold it was, I’m not surprised.  (Then I remembered my Seattle excursion had me near the old building.  Everyone else was at the building released last year.  Whoops) I managed to keep my sandwich warm the whole trip, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the experience was as close to the anticipation fed by the name and the picture.

The maple butter seemed spread on the chicken instead of the toasted bun.  I’m normally accustomed to more spice in my fried chicken, but that (might) be a bit much here.  So many flavors competing.  Maybe if KFC had tried this instead of pizza… which we know I have to try at least once, šŸ˜†.

What else to say?  Doesn’t look like all the ingredients for my Morrigan Aensland Super Frap are still on the Starbucks menu.  The eggs were as Starbucks eggs typically are, which is to say they are as fast food eggs typically are.  Compacted together like scrambled eggs, but not scrambled in form. No additional flavoring or coloring that I could tell.  And finally, the bread.  This is where it comes apart.  Toasted is normally fine, but it shouldn’t be physically hard on a sandwich.  I should not need to negotiate or strategize where I am biting or from what angle.  It’s really my only complaint. I ordered a Baby Yoda Later, check my Deviantart for my thoughts on that.

Well, off to dinner.  Passing by convention adverts, I got a good look at what I haven’t seen in years.  I remember getting good cityscapes šŸŒ† šŸ˜Œ from Plymouth Pillars Park.  It was a fun little ā€œinside-secretā€ kind of place for cosplay shots.  I’ll have to adjust for the new backdrop, but I don’t think I’ll be shooting up here again for a while anyway.  A shame, I will miss it.  But I was in that building last year.  Worthy trade.

And for what any Photographer photographer trip at Seattle is for, the real estate market.  And you think I’m kidding.  Iā€™ll have my more personal discoveries/insights in written form on other sites.  Iā€™m keeping the focus on food and fandom on this one.

And speaking of, back in college I wanted to do Soul Eater photoshoots and gatherings at Plymouth, then come together at the Rumba Cafe.  The name reminded me of Rumba Coffee from the first Soul Eater anime.  Oh well.  And nearby, the Roasterie Reserve in Seattle.  I tried to cover it when it was new, the 2nd of two of these at the time, but that got lost in the shuffle.  Itā€™s definitely an institution now.

As for my actual meal, I was treated to Little Woodyā€™s Burgers.  I had a custom burger, batter-fried onion rings, and a blood orange kombucha.  I figured Iā€™d have preferred the Jasmine Green Tea option, but I didnā€™t want more caffeine.  After tasting the ā€œBlood Orangeā€ flavor, Iā€™m sure I would have preferred the tea.  The fries (I was shared some) tasted more like smoke than potato.  But the rings held up well.  The burger tasted grass-fed.  And while I enjoyed myself here, it was cramped.  Most of the seats needed to be on a second floor.  And I walked by it at least once, because I was looking where I was going, and counted on a protruding sign.  Their sign is on their window.

Coming back down the hill, and getting back to the convention centerā€¦

ā€¦there was a new gyro restaurant, a remaining Taco Del Mar, and still nothing where Mobyā€™s used to be.  But this is the finest place as any to transition to the cosplay.  Starting in the same lobbyā€¦

ā€¦ weā€™ll start with GIR.  Iā€™ve caught so many GIRs at so many cons over the years, I was speculating whether itā€™s bad luck not to photograph at least one per con.  Little guy became an institution.  And now a ā€œLady Dimitrescu.ā€  Then weā€™ll jump to Lust from FullMetal Alchemist.  I told her about the coupleā€™s photo I took of a Lust cosplayer reenacting a famous scene with her personal Gene Havik cosplayer.  Surely Iā€™ve got that around here somewhere.  Hereā€™s PathFinder Cosplay as Laudna from Critical Roll.  Check her Instagram.  Iā€™m not sure whoā€™s wearing Bloom, here.  Shout out in the comments?  And after a couple more, yes that is what I wear to carry much lunches these days, I stepped out and lucked into a Golden Skull!  Speaking of good luck earlier.

That Golden Skull belongs to the Ōgon Bat, also known as Phantaman overseas.  He predates Superhero comics, appearing in 1931 in kamishibai (or paper theater in the park).  He later transitioned into manga, and from there appeared in multiple answers.  I alluded to this with the cosplayer, but in lieu of all these terms, I brought up that the performances ended in candy.  How very like me, and he certainly liked that.  If youā€™re watching this, I hope I was illuminating.  More links in the description.  I did miss an excellent Jinx cosplayer, because she was still transporting her lunch.  But I caught so many quality costumes on the outsideā€¦

ā€¦starting with this kilted Captain America!  Jumping straight ahead to the Mandalorians.  Longtime followers may remember another prominent Mandalorian cosplay.  But no recycling bins hereā€¦ ā€¦on these particular street corners.

And here we have Mara Jade.  I was first introduced to the character by another Comicon Cosplayer some years back.  One thing I appreciate about convention cosplay.  Itā€™s a good first introduction to what fine things you might have otherwise missed.

Of course there were other Star Wars cosplays there, which segways nicely into a StarFIRE cosplay.  I was reminded of my first Summercon.  One of the back issues on markup there was the 8-Issue Starfire Mini-Series.  Someone else used that name once or twice, and as soon as Princess Koriā€™ander of Tamaran showed up, Starfire #1 was never referenced again.  (Kori really took off, didnā€™t she?)

Seems Hobbits have a taste for fashion (second only to mushrooms, and just ahead of the leaf).

After a couple more, I found someone sporting pointy ear accessories.  My traveling companions had particular ones in mind.  I knew it was a longshot, but thought it was worth checking out, anyway.  ā€¦I should have written down where she said she got these.  And I should have asked for the brand name.  Whoops.

Wrapping it up on a funnier note.  I know Scaā€™ach from Fate was never Rider class, but I see this sign and THIS cosplay at the same time?  Couldnā€™t pass that up.  And please donā€™t pass up commenting, liking sharing and all the rest.

The Arch Building usually had a LOT of Metro King County bus route maps.  Depending on how close you want to get to which building, thereā€™s a lot of ways to get off within a few blocks.  And thatā€™s still not counting the train.  And thereā€™s a lot of local businesses to engage in.  Some of whom host tie-in events for convention goers.  Not this one.  I just liked their sign, and they were right next to stairs heading up to the Arch.

And while youā€™re here, donā€™t forget what else there is to see in Seattle coming up.Ā  ACT Theater by the old Arch building, and the Paramount by the new Summit building, and the 5th avenue theater just a few blocks away have things between now, Sakuracon and time beyond that.Ā  Also between now and Sak, St. Paddyā€™s Day!Ā  Remember when ā€œV for Vendettaā€ was released on 03/17?Ā  (Please drink responsibly) And coming back to ACT, theyā€™re having a party next month.Ā  And on that note, until next time.Ā Ā
